NIGHT BRIGHT TYRES: FOR THE ILL BIKER IN YOU

Cyglo will blow your night cycling mind. This right here is called illovation. Haven't heard of illovation? Well, now you have. It's when you take something ill and combine it with innovation in a product category. This is how you make safety a word that everyone can call dope. Can't wait to see these in the street nights. MARCO'S BRINGING CARICATURE BACK

For the most part, caricature artists always bugged me. They always excel at drawing attention to your least flattering features —for me it was my big nose— while attempting to capture 'you' in the awkward few minutes you sit before them. Italian artist Marco Calcinaro keeps that oddball spirit alive, but does so by capturing the essence of his subjects in such a way that you can't help but stare in envy. Via:  DYT

CARLTON DRAUGHT GOES INTO SLOW-MO OVERDRIVE

The opera lyrics really tie the spot together. via: adfreak

Slow motion, men in slow motion
Men look much better in slow motion
It makes me want to sing quite loud
Now, now, I want a Carlton Draught, chips and lasagna
Men in slow mo…in slow mo…
Slow motion
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…
Slow motion.

CEELO'S FOUR-LETTERED COMEBACK SONG

For anyone that's been had by a gold digger or just some crazy ass female, send her off with this end of summer instant classic from Gnarls Barkley and Goodie Mob alum, CeeLo! Women have enough upbeat hater song anthems anyway, right? Via: Abby and Greg

TODAY IN WEIRD: RUBIX CUBE HEAD

This ad by Chi & Partners for British beverage, Drench, is pretty bizarre. But it kept my attention and the payoff 'brains perform better hydrated,' is a smart sell.  Previous Drench ads, especially the fish one below, are awesomely entertaining as well. via: Buzzfeed

I'M STILL HERE: HOAX OR GENIUS OR NEITHER?

The official trailer is out and the debate continues: have Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck constructed the most drawn out Kaufman-esque prank, or have they created an introspective look at a Hollywood actor quitting his profession to pursue a hip hop career? The biggest crime about the reality genre is the amount of reality it usually lacks. Although, Joaquin did sing those songs in Walk the Line...

Joaquin, for the most part, has managed to maintain a relatively low profile throughout the filming of I'm Still Here. He has sprung up from time to time, most notably his bizarre Letterman show appearance in 2009 where he mumbled, appeared bewildered and was pretty much clueless about the movie he was there to promote —all with a film crew documenting his 'transformation.' The film's distributor, Magnolia Pictures, swear this is not a "mocumentary." If anything, they at least put together a really intriguing movie trailer. Guess the mystery will have to linger on until its September 10th premier. Watch the trailer and then decide for yourself. Via:  Billboard & @taylorlecroy

'IS THIS WHAT WE FEAR?' BY ANONYMOUS

This is how you protest. An anonymous artist in Tuscon, AZ has created an iconic image out of an iconic statue. Hard to ignore and a clever incorporation of Americanized cultural artifacts. Llama ella Mamasita Libertad. According to Wooster, the artist explains, "it's a commentary on the xenophobia that seems to pulse through the Southwest. es eso lo que tenemos miedo? (is this what we fear?)" Via: WoosterCollective

An abstract typeface constructed by Brazilian designer Teo Menna using only an x-acto knife, a photocopier, ink pen and a very precise hand. Very cool. MANMADE HELL ON EARTH?

Sure, the '4x the size of Manhattan' 'piece' of ice that broke off Greenland the other week has drawn minimal  attention over here in the States (Video below).Maybe it will cool off Canada, which is having the highest temperature increases in North America. This map, created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will verify that, yes, Earth is getting hotter on a global scale. 14 nations have already surpassed previous record highs. In MohenjuDaro, Pakistan, temperatures reached a scorching 128.3 F. Whether we created our own predicament or the Sun is 'waking-up' is another story. Bring on the brownouts. via: Good

WEEZER RESORTS TO MORE GIMMICKS TO REMAIN RELEVANT

There was a time when geeky excitement preceded the release of a Weezer album. Sadly, their ability to draw attention to themselves has worn off over the span of lackluster efforts, borrowed interest and desperate collaborations (Lil Wayne, anyone?). Their past videos have featured Muppets, as well as a viral video extravaganza homage, which were fun. I just wonder if their continued reliance on gimmicks to generate buzz has left them complacent and uninterested in ever attempting to refine and reinvent their sound. I personally gave up after Maldroit. Maybe they'll prove us wrong with their upcoming release, Hurley, due out in September. After all, this is their first album since departing Geffen (they are now on Epitaph). I'd love to eat my words for Weezer.

Hurley, like their previous album, Raditude, relies on an album art gimmick to generate interest. This one even comes with a similar 'cover remix' contest that greeted Raditude fans. Unfortunately, an ironic cover such as a flying dog or that bearded fat guy in Lost (Sorry, that's all I know about the show), isn't going to make up for musical performance.

If only Weezer continued to take chances and push themselves like they did during the Pinkerton days, each album wouldn't feel like a watered down version of the one that came before it.  Here's hoping for more substance to this album than the random cover art accompanying it. We'd like the Weezer of the 90ties back, please. Via: Spinner

SHARPIE CREATES FIRST PERMANENT PENCIL

Impossible just left the building. Sharpie, the masters of the permanent marker, has invented the first pencil that turns permanent after three days. They're calling it the Liquid Pencil, and it is built with the power to erase like a pencil before those three days are up. If this actually works unlike erasable pens (is there one that even works?), this will be great for sketches, comps, notes and all the paper you wasted in the past because of mistakes. Scheduled for release in September. via: Gizmodo

FLASHBACK IN MUSIC VIDEO HISTORY: VOL. 2

This stop motion music video from Fujiya and Miyagi gives the numbers on dice a trippy new context. The song, Ankle Injuries (2007), serves as a nice catchy backdrop to an animation style that has elements of The White Stripe's Lego stop-motion burner, "Fell in Love with a Girl," and Radiohead's hypnotic "House of Cards." The latter used neither cameras nor lights to film the In Rainbows classic. Of course, any good movie buff will also know the breakthrough off the White Stripes third album was directed by exclaimed eccentric Michel Gondry of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame. Either way, never listened to Fujiya and Miyagi until now and it sounds pretty decent. Via: The Jailbreak

HALO 2600: HALO GOES 8-BIT

Halo 2600 is Halo re-imagined for the Atari era thanks to former VP of Microsoft's game publishing division, Ed Fries. Unlike current games where you can get hit a million times before you die, in the Atari age, one hit typically killed you. And there's no saving games, either. Perhaps a cheat code is floating out there on the interwebs. Eat your heart out. And, if you're curious to hear Ed Fries story on how the Halo 2600 game came about, read this. A REASON TO EMBRACE YOUR INNER NERD

Couches. Sofas. Whatever you call them, they never looked like this. Conceived by designer Igor Chak, "The couch is all leather, with two glass surfaces. Although it might look uncomfortable it’s actually really soft, mainly lined and made with memory foam." Sounds like a couch you can play video games on for hours. If you can find a woman who wants eighties inspired video game furniture, we salute you. Either way, she'll have to admit this is kinda fresh when it comes to geek sheik. via: The Jailbreak

WHY HANS ZIMMER'S 'INCEPTION' SCORE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

Found this on a Gizmodo discussion board. Brilliant! Hans Zimmer used the "kick" music performed by Edith Piaf, slowed it down tremendously, thus creating the booming track we all recognize during the film. Makes perfect sense that the music set to wake the team from their dream state slows down just like the dream within a dream slows down. A clue to explain the movie, or another way to propel us into additional viewings? There's real-life "inception" at it's finest. Listen for yourself. Via: Gizmodo member Nightelfmohawk

FAKE OREGON TRAIL MOVIE TRAILER

Wish this trailer was real? Don't we all. Everybody's favorite childhood game, The Oregon Trail, would definitely make a far better movie based off a game —heck, give us Pit Fall, too— than most of the ones we've had to look away in shame at; Doom or Mortal Combat anyone? Well envisioned story line, even if it is fake. Via: Boing Boing

KENNY "K-SWISS" POWERS

Sometimes, a forgotten brand will live forgotten no more. By hiring fictional blowhard —and washed up flamethrower— Kenny Fucking Powers to endorse the K-Swiss Tubes running shoe, K-Swiss is putting their balls on the table and upping the ante in the athletic shoe category. Shoes look good to boot. The only people I know who wore K-Swiss shoes was my brother in high school and probably some 90210 character.

Don't call it a comeback? If K-Swiss endorses Kenny throughout this season of Eastbound And Down, press releases included, this may take the prize for best use of a fictional character in an ad campaign. Great work, 72 and Sunny. via: FOD and Creativity
