BANKSY TO REEMERGE NEXT WEEK

In true poetic fashion, Banksy updated his website the other day with just one image of a silhouetted street artist throwing up flowers sprouting out of a wall. Nothing else remains on his site but the promise of October 2013, the month Banksy will reappear.

Rumors are he's living in L.A. with a possible outdoor show in the works to play off his 'Better Out Than In' declaration. Could this finally be his response to all the recent opportunists removing his street art in L.A. and London and selling them for huge money in private auction—perhaps, he'll center the show around "art for the people, not for the galleries"? We'll just have to wait until next week to see what the mystery man has planned. Check back for more new Banksy images during October as they appear, whereever that may end up. via Banksy

'BYE BYE NORTH KOREA' BY JR

French street photographer JR took the world by storm with his ability to access remote places and capture its people perfectly. And his recent trip to North Korea is no exception (who knows how the hell he pulled that off). This may be his most stunning and defining work yet.

NEW FAILE PUZZLE BOXES MAKE FOR ONE HELL OF A STREET ART FANTASY

Not only do New York's art collective Faile capture the essence of nostalgia in these retro inspired puzzle boxes, they've created something that goes beyond the physical and into the digital era with their wicked six sided art puzzles that you can also play for free on your iPhone or iPad.

TED PRIZE WINNER JR WANTS YOU TO TURN THE WORLD 'INSIDE OUT'

JR presented his wish last night to a captive TED audience and streamed live for anyone with an internet connection to see.  A truly inspiring artist, his wish is for the whole world to participate in his next art project titled 'Inside Out.' JR has already lined up the man behind Google Street view—along with countless other philanthropists in attendance last night—to document and catalog his project online. JR HAS LANDED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

On March 2nd, 2011, TED Grand Prize recipient, French Street Photographer JR, will reveal his "wish" to the world.

When he won this past October, JR was awarded $100,000 and a wish for the TED community to help him fulfill. As a run up to his highly anticipated live web cast announcement in Long Beach, California, JR is popping up around town with twenty pieces from his latest project, "The Wrinkles of the City." EINE IS HAVING 'THE STRANGEST WEEK'

If you haven't heard of Ben Eine by now, he's the British street artist known for his fancy letters and the 21st Century City canvas that the British PM gifted to Barack Obama last week. KICKFLIP HAROSHI McSCULPTURE

Hailing from Japan, Haroshi is putting old and tired skateboards to gorgeous use. As you can see, recycling skateboards can create awe-inspiring sculptures. And that's no easy task. They are comprised of a multitude of decked out wood after all. And that's where the challenge lies. Skateboards are not only comprised of many different particles, they also come in tons of shapes and sizes, making Haroshi almost a zen master of wood carving. That's not too far a stretch either as a common Buddhist practice is wood carvings. Via: Trendland

BIZARRE ART: SAN FRANCISCO TOOTHPICK SCULPTURE

What can you do with 100,000 toothpicks, 3,000 hours of construction over 35 years? For one Bay area native, it was erecting this colossal rendition of San Francisco. Righteous.

BROOKLYN'S FIGHT AGAINST GENTRIFICATION

Street artist Specter takes a traditional advertising route, the city billboard, and uses it as a shock and awe campaign to remind the yuppies that, well, they're gentrification is not welcome in Brooklyn, NY.

In a city where money is power, and property is more precious than blood diamonds, Specter may be fighting a losing battle, but at least he's not letting Jay-Z's home turf go down like a failed drug deal. Exhibit opens February 4th, 2010 and runs through May 10th at MoCADA @ 80 Hanson Place

OBSOLETE ART WOULD LIKE YOUR CONSIDERATION

Take something that's obsolete, use it for mixed media art, and presto, you have the art of Nick Gentry. From VHS tapes to 3.5" 1.4 mb floppy diskettes, Gentry is giving useless objects a purpose again.
