LCD SOUNDSYSTEM-2010 ALBUM OF THE YEAR

There's no other contender in my mind. LCD Soundsystem released what is rumored to be their last album, This is Happening, in May. The sound is ahead of its time. The tracks are sprawling in size (most clock in at over seven minutes). Nonetheless, the whole album is grounded in rhythm and lyrical themes any person can relate to.  Band producer, lyricist and vocalist James Murphy's tracks are infectious in their honest nature, giving you the sense you've been there too. And you'll want to go back to it again and again. Dig it.

WEEZER RESORTS TO MORE GIMMICKS TO REMAIN RELEVANT

There was a time when geeky excitement preceded the release of a Weezer album. Sadly, their ability to draw attention to themselves has worn off over the span of lackluster efforts, borrowed interest and desperate collaborations (Lil Wayne, anyone?). Their past videos have featured Muppets, as well as a viral video extravaganza homage, which were fun. I just wonder if their continued reliance on gimmicks to generate buzz has left them complacent and uninterested in ever attempting to refine and reinvent their sound. I personally gave up after Maldroit. Maybe they'll prove us wrong with their upcoming release, Hurley, due out in September. After all, this is their first album since departing Geffen (they are now on Epitaph). I'd love to eat my words for Weezer.

Hurley, like their previous album, Raditude, relies on an album art gimmick to generate interest. This one even comes with a similar 'cover remix' contest that greeted Raditude fans. Unfortunately, an ironic cover such as a flying dog or that bearded fat guy in Lost (Sorry, that's all I know about the show), isn't going to make up for musical performance.

If only Weezer continued to take chances and push themselves like they did during the Pinkerton days, each album wouldn't feel like a watered down version of the one that came before it.  Here's hoping for more substance to this album than the random cover art accompanying it. MAJOR LEAGUE EATING INFRINGES ON THE AMERICAN WAY

"Let him eat! Let him eat!" shouted the crowd as the New York Police arrested famed eater, Kobayashi, at the 2010 Coney Island Hot Dog Eating contest. In a dispute with Major League Eating over his desire to participate in unsanctioned MLE events, Kobayashi was barred from participating in the world's most popular eating contest —and the one he put on the map— this July 4th. As seen in the video below, Kobayashi's mere presence and urge to reclaim the hot dog eating throne was quickly put to an end with his arrest.

Has competitive eating really come to this? Do we need an official organization like the MLE to control something as benign as a bunch of people gathered to inhale as much food in a given time span. I admire their ability to turn gluttony into a sanctioned "sport," but this is a new low. People come to see Kobayashi and Joey "Jaws" Chestnutt eat. With out those two, there is no "sport." Period. Maybe it's time the MLE went with their gut and stopped acting like this event is more exclusive than it really is. If you have a stomach and a penchant for water, buns and dogs, you're in. End of story. It's the American way.

JACK WHITE HAS A NEW MUSE

Jack White is alive and well as drummer and co-vocalist of The Dead Weather. On their follow up to the surprising debut, Horehound, comes Sea Of Cowards, quite possibly Jack White's best album since The White Stripes put out 'Elephant' in 2003 and definitely will wind up on those Top Ten lists for 2010.

Jack has found the yin to his yang in Alison Mosshart . They compliment each other so perfectly, sometimes you can't tell their voices apart. The perfect ending to this year would of course be a new White Stripes album, but I think The Dead Weather are doing a fine job of tiding me over.

Current track getting heavy rotation over here, "I'm Mad." Enjoy your Friday with this one and a cold beverage my friends!

YOU GOT SEIZED: APPLE GOES GANGSTER

Gizmodo writer, Jason Chen, had his home searched and laptops and harddrives seized via warrant the other day. A little over the top are we, Mr. Jobs? I know your products are awesome, I'm typing on one of them, but I still think this is a publicity stunt to build up free press and buzz. It's definitely not hurting future sales, that's for sure. AAPL stock is riding an all time high and is up 3% today alone. That's a pretty good return on protecting your investments. If only wise fools like myself were smart enough to invest say, 6 years ago, when the iPod was just getting hot.

ATOMS FOR PEACE: LIVE FROM THE ARAGON BALLROOM, CHICAGO

Shot the first of Atoms for Peace two night stand at Chicago's legendary Aragon Ballroom. Thom Yorke, Flea and company closed the show out with the funky tripped out sounds of Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses. Video is a little shaky at first, but the sound is tight. Enjoy!
